This webquest is about the impact of the Second World War on Walsall children.
Walsall is a town in the West Midlands of England. It is about ten miles north of Birmingham and close to the Black Country towns of Wolverhampton and Dudley.
Walsall has a history of leather making and metal working. There was also brick making, boat building, coal mining and brewing. Walsall was called the 'town of a hundred trades'.
The 1930s was a hard time to live for lots of people in Great Britain. This was because:
1. Many men were unemployed because there were not enough jobs.
2. There was news that armies from Germany, Italy and Japan were attacking other countries.
3. People remembered how terrible the First World War (1914 - 1918) had been and wanted peace.
4. There was a worry that bombs would be dropped on town and cities and many people would die.
